Kisumu County has a lot to offer whether you are visiting or you are a resident being a tourist destination hub of the Western Tourism Circuit. Kisumu is located on the tip of the shores of Lake Victoria, Africa’s largest lake by area and the second largest freshwater lake in the world. Spice up your 2022 with a tour of these places.
1. Rusinga Island
Rusinga features manicured, velvet lawns stretch to the water’s edge and the grounds, with its exotic trees, are a haven for a myriad of bird species – many of which are unique. There’s good accommodation near the theme parks and on a private beach, resorts and lounges including Rusinga Island Lodge in Rusinga and Lake Victoria Safari Village in Mbita. For people who are really adventurous, activities such boat-racing could be arranged.
2. Dunga Hill Camp
Dunga has good facilities for your weekend getaway which include a large lawn for camping, a bar and kitchen with a large open dining area. 3. Kisumu Impala Sanctuary
Kisumu Impala Sanctuary is a peaceful, relaxing place to enjoy the natural beauty of wildlife such as lions, impalas, zebras and so much more. The sanctuary is also home to five campsites all with spectacular views of Lake Victoria. Bird watching, nature walks and glass bottomed boat rides compliment the activities availed at the sanctuary.
4. Ndere Island National Park
It is an island of serenity and beauty located off the Kisumu- Bondo Road. It takes approximately 45 minutes with a speed boat direct from Kisumu. A wide variety of animals like hippos, baboons, monitor lizards, snakes, Nile crocodiles, impalas, antelopes, waterbucks, zebras and different species of birds can be found at the park.
5. Kit Mikayi
Kit-Mikayi is an imposing rock formation seventy meters high along Bondo-Kisumu Road. The rock is located in an area rich in attractions, not far from Ndere Island. The site is associated with sacrifices and many legends from pre-Christian times.
