The EU: Africa the Journey Design Hackathon Kenya series has just concluded in Kisumu. EU: Africa The Journey is an African-European online hackathon program to finding innovative solutions to socio-economic problems in Africa, which have been further amplified by the COVID-19 crisis.
As a part of Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs / Välisministeerium Development Cooperation and in collaboration with Lakehub Kisumu we’ve kicked off a 4-day Garage48 design workshop in a hackathon format with a majority of female participants!
Local talents inspired in digital design, user experience and prototyping are actively attending to learn about and develop their skills in user experience, digital design and branding. The program has already had an impact on 10 000 participants, 300 mentors, 11 spokespeople and over 500 tech communities across Africa and Europe.
The Startup Community Building Workshop in East-Africa is scheduled this month. Applications for the Mombasa Design Hackathon are still open. Pre-events design hackathons are organized in partnership with Pangea Accelerator in Nairobi, Lakehub Kisumu and Swahilipot Hub in Mombasa. Winning teams will get their hands on a 100 000€ prize fund (and growing), develop their prototypes further in the follow-up program of the hackathon, and implement their world-changing ideas in real life.
All the challenges tackled in this program are put together in collaboration with African Union and Smart Africa and are in line with the Africa-Europe Digital Economy Partnership Report and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals The program is put together in collaboration with Estonia Ministry of Foreign Affairs Development Cooperation and African Union, Irish Aid, Luxembourg Aid and Development and Polish Aid and implemented by Garage48 and Smart Africa.
