It is Customer Service Week and when it comes to domestic air travel in Kenya, airlines are innovating to get passengers on board. Nairobi is the only city in Africa whose domestic air travel capacity is outgrowing its international capacity ahead of Tunis and Addis Ababa. There is a sudden thrust in promotion of regional and domestic tourism and travel.
New routes are being introduced, affordable packages and ardent marketing as domestic air travel is outpacing international take offs and landings. This is the case at the Kisumu International Airport targeting the greater Lake Region Economic Bloc.
The region is targeting intra-regional travel within East Africa and domestic tourism for revival in the lake basin. This comprises the following counties: Kisumu, Migori, Homa Bay, Bungoma, Busia, Kakamega, Kisii, Nyamira, Siaya, Trans-Nzoia, Kericho, Bomet, Nandi and Vihiga.
Another reason for travel is domestic tourism because of the rich cultural diversity and varied landscapes attracting millions of visitors from across East Africa and beyond. Tourism arrivals in the region may have dropped in comparison to pre-pandemic years, however, cheaper tickets and convenience continues to boost business travel. Airlines are introducing a twice-daily connection linking Nairobi to Kisumu.
With a population of over 14 million people, the Lake Region has a lot to offer in terms of products and attractions, with its enormous untapped tourism and hospitality potential. This explains the drop in cost for a return air ticket to Kisumu. Take the latest entrant in the market for example, Renegade Air. Renegade expansion plan has added 2 extra flights this coming weekend, on the 8th and 9th of October, 2021 between 10am and 12 noon.
748 Air Services launched direct flights from JKIA to Kisumu International Airport in a move expected to step up competition with a one-way ticket worth Kshs 4,000. The main aim here is to play a significant role in supporting growth of domestic tourism market and boosting the economy.
Fly540 is selling daily flight tickets to Kisumu International Airport from Nairobi JKIA at a regular Kshs 4,540 with a current promotion for Kshs 3,540. Services get interesting with a discount voucher for your next flight on JamboJet on a regular Kshs 4,600. A round trip on Kenya Airways’ economy is now at Kshs 13,115 from Kisumu to Nairobi, and at Kshs 20,430 to Mombasa.
This means, you can now connect from JKIA to Eldoret and Kisumu to Mombasa. You can book your next flight on your favorite airline’s website or through your preferred travel agent. You can also prefer to check out restaurants and shops, as well as ATMs, tour desks, and car rental companies.
Happy customer service week!
