The Governor, Prof. Anyang Nyong’o (FAAS, EGH, BA, MA, PhD) in his capacity as Chancellor, has installed Prof. Hazel Miseda Mumbo (PCHD, Ph.D) as the third Vice Chancellor of Great Lakes University of Kisumu during the university’s 15th Graduation Ceremony at the Main Campus Graduation Square moving from a diploma teacher to a respected academician.
In his address The Chairman of GLUK Governing Council Eng. Carey Orenge, (BSc, MSc, CBS) said that “her role is to give overall strategic direction to the organization.” Prof. Hazel previously served as Public Sector Advisor at Intrahealth International, FunzoKenya, a USAid-funded project.
Her role was to facilitate the vision for human resource for health and engage continuously with policy makers in the ministries of Health, Finance, Education, Planning, National Development and Vision 2030. She has 19 publications in journals, books and led the development of 10 policies in the ministry of health.
In reference to law, the Governor stated that“the Vice Chancellor shall be the academic head of the university. And as such shall have the overall responsibility of the direction, organization, administration and programs of the university.”
GLUK brings to the graduation cake 653 graduands including 2 Doctorates, 27 Masters Degrees, 360 Bachelor’s Degrees, 142 Diplomas and 122 Certificate graduates. These range from the College of Health sciences, Faculty of Arts and Sciences comprising Clinical Medicine and Community Health, Environmental Health, Community Nutrition, Nursing and Midwifery, Agribusiness, Business Administration, Pastoral Theology, IT, Education (Arts), Counselling Psychology among others.
