Construction of the proposed Nyamasaria Satellite Bus Park is still ongoing. This is among key projects under the Kenya Urban Support Program (KUSP). These were; the upgrading and beautification of Jamhuri Park, the Nyamasaria Satellite Bus Park meant to decogest the city and construction of the of Kibuye Market Complex.
The new bus park is yet to be occupied; construction has stalled for some time aside attempts last year to compel matatu operators to shift their base to the park. This affirms efforts put in place by Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o to bring order to the transport sector.
The Bus Park is expected to be the largest bus station in Kisumu serving all vehicles from different routes. The county government is planning to relocate all buses, heavy commercial vehicles and PSVs from the CBD.
Kisumu City Manager, Mr. Abala Wanga had served a notice early last year for all heavy commercial vehicles to relocate to the park. They were expected to use the Kondele bypass. Other buses with offices within town had also been given notice to relocate their offices outside Kisumu CBD. All these changes are done on the basis of improving and reorganizing Kisumu town.
The facility is anticipated to open up Nyamasaria and Mowlem and provide business opportunities for Kisumu residents especially those around Nairobi Road.
